Testimonials
Nothing tells the story of a photo tour or workshop better than those who have experienced it. Here you’ll find reflections from participants who joined me, sharing what they learned, the moments they captured, and the memories they brought home.

I’ve now joined several photo tours with Stefan and Stijn, all to the far North. That means snow, cliffs, and often ice, the perfect setting for minimalist, graphic, and black-and-white photography. But things only get truly exciting when wildlife appears in those snowy landscapes, and that’s exactly what these two make possible. They know precisely where to be, and when. As a result, the chances for outstanding photography are virtually guaranteed.
On top of that, both Stefan and Stijn are strong photographers in their own right, generously sharing their expertise and helping you make the most of every creative opportunity the conditions offer. Add to that the comfortable accommodation, excellent food, and, not to forget, a great sense of humor, and you have all the ingredients for an unforgettable photo tour.

My winter trip to Finland with Stefan was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, I was immersed in a fairytale world of snow and silence. Days were spent at stunning photo locations with endless white hills, snowy trees, and birds along icy rivers.
The highlight was witnessing the northern lights, green and violet dancing across the sky, leaving us speechless. Evenings at the cozy lodge, with delicious meals and time in the sauna, made it the perfect end to adventurous days.
This journey was full of nature, photography, and camaraderie, an experience I will always treasure.

I had long admired Stefan’s work, and years ago I reached out to him about one of his photographs. That first exchange eventually led me to join a trip with him to photograph wildlife in Finland’s beautiful winter scenery. His photographic expertise and deep knowledge of wildlife make it easy to capture stunning images while enjoying nature.
What stood out just as much was Stefan himself, always willing to help with anything and creating a great atmosphere throughout the trip. I’ve returned more than once since then, and today I consider him a friend. I’ll keep coming back to Finland for the photography, the adventure, and the good times we share.

I first discovered Stefan’s work on social media and was immediately impressed by the quality of his photography. Joining one of his workshops in Finland was a dream come true. Over several days, Stefan proved to be not only a highly skilled photographer but also an exceptional host. He provided expert guidance in the field, took care of every detail, from accommodation to logistics, and even introduced us to local cuisine with a traditional dish. His attention to detail and genuine care made the workshop memorable. Stefan is both a talented professional and someone committed to delivering a top-tier experience.

In 2024 I joined a photo tour to Finnish Lapland with Stefan and Stijn. Their guidance was excellent and a lot of fun, both in photography and in personality. The lodge in Kuusamo was authentic, spacious, and the sauna was wonderful after a cold day outside.
There was a perfect balance between photo hides and other locations, with breathtaking landscapes and fantastic photo opportunities. This trip is truly highly recommended!

In spring 2025 I joined Stefan and Stijn on the Iconic Bird Species of Finland tour, and iconic it was. Photographing Black Grouse on their lek, Western Capercaillie before sunrise, and Brown Bears passing within meters was unforgettable, wildlife in its purest landscapes.
Afternoons by the lake gave space for landscapes, which kept my landscape heart more than satisfied. The guidance of Stefan and Stijn was fantastic, always alert and supported by Stefan’s strong local connections for the latest tips. Evenings at the lodge, sharing images, inspiring each other, laughing over snacks and drinks, made it a perfect adventure. Highly recommended!

This year I joined a combined winter trip to Finland and Norway with Stefan and Stijn, together with a group of enthusiastic photographers. Everything was perfectly organized, and the atmosphere was fantastic. We saw so much, Willow Grouse, Mountain Hares, Reindeer, and even several Arctic Foxes.
A true highlight was Hornøya, with nearly one hundred thousand breeding birds, including Puffins, Guillemots, Razorbills, and Shags. Walking among them and photographing them up close was unforgettable. Witnessed the Northern Lights, and traveled across breathtaking mountain plateaus.
Alongside the nature and photography, we enjoyed great food, laughter, and wonderful company. A trip full of snow, camaraderie, and unique encounters with nature, highly recommended!

I’ve now joined two nature trips led by Stefan Gerrits and Stijn Smits, and both times it felt exactly as a nature journey should be. What I appreciated most was that the focus was always on creating the best opportunities for impressive wildlife photos. That sometimes meant early mornings, late evenings, or even heading out in the middle of the night when there was a chance of northern lights.
The preparation was excellent, with a clear online briefing and a carefully designed program. At the same time, there was enough flexibility to adapt to unexpected moments in nature. Just as valuable was the atmosphere, warm, relaxed, and full of laughter. Both times I returned home with a collection of beautiful images and a big smile.

In February 2020 I joined my first photo tour with Stefan and Stijn in central Finland, an unforgettable week of deep frost, heavy snow, and fantastic encounters: several species of Woodpecker, Golden Eagles, White-throated Dippers, and even a Great Grey Owl in a magical snowy forest.
In 2022 we traveled to Varanger, braving snowstorms and dramatic winter conditions. We photographed Willow Grouse, serene winter landscapes, and spent two days on Hornøya among Puffins, Razorbills, and Shags. And in 2024 I explored Iceland with them: rugged coasts, Puffins, Whooper Swans, Black-tailed Godwits, lava beaches, and waterfalls.
Stefan and Stijn know photography and the best places to go. Every trip has been well organized, inspiring, and a joy both photographically and socially.

The winter trip in Finland, guided by Stefan, was truly magical! It was a real winter wonderland, with thick layers of snow on the trees, icy rivers, dancing northern lights, and beautiful birds to observe and photograph. Stefan is calm, knowledgeable, and also quite a good cook. In short, it was a carefree photo tour that I truly enjoyed!

Your Photo Tour Leaders
Born in the Netherlands and living in Finland for over 25 years, I combine a deep connection to Nordic nature with a highly organized and reliable way of working. As a photo tour guide, I make sure every detail is taken care of, planning itineraries, double-checking logistics, and ensuring the group is always in the right place at the right time. I know the areas inside out and work closely with local contacts who provide unique insights, so participants can focus fully on their photography.
In the field, I share my own approach, imaginative and minimalistic, often compared to Scandinavian design and the Nordic way of living. I enjoy teaching how to strip subjects down to their purest form, working with light, space, and simplicity to create powerful images. My goal is to provide not only a seamless and enjoyable tour, but also inspiration and practical guidance that helps each participant develop their own vision.
Stefan Gerrits

Born and based in the eastern part of the Netherlands, Stijn has been fascinated by nature and the outdoors from an early age. Over the past twenty years, photography has grown from a hobby into his greatest passion, allowing him to share the beauty of the natural world and inspire others to spend more time outside.
On tour, Stijn complements the guiding with his deep technical knowledge of cameras, lenses, and equipment. Whether it’s fine-tuning settings, solving gear-related challenges, or helping participants get the most out of their kit, Stijn ensures everyone feels confident in the field. His photographic style is strong and dynamic, sometimes with a darker edge, which offers participants an alternative perspective and fresh inspiration. Combined with his patience, clear explanations, and hands-on guidance, this makes him the perfect support for both beginners and experienced photographers looking to sharpen their technical and creative skills.
